David Sackman was born on Long Island in Commack, NY. He attended St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, NY and received a Congressional nomination to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. Dave obtained a B.S. in Marine Transportation with a Minor in Marine Operations from SUNY Maritime College at Ft. Schuyler, Bronx, NY. He also successfully obtained an unlimited tonnage deck license and worked as a deck officer on US flagged merchant vessels including container ships, petroleum tankers and tug/barge units throughout the U.S. and the world for approximately six years. He has attended marine firefighting school, survival school and advanced navigation school as a part of post-graduate studies.
Dave attended law school at Barry University in Orlando, Florida. He represented multiple insurance companies and businesses in the worker’s compensation area while employed as an associate at a private law firm specializing in insurance defense claims for almost 5 years. Dave saw first hand how injured employees were not treated well by their employers and felt a strong desire to help people navigate through the difficult and often confusing Florida Worker’s Compensation Act. He began doing Plaintiff’s work in 2009 as the Department Head for Worker’s Compensation at a medium sized Plaintiff’s firm. Dave currently represents clients in worker’s compensation and personal injury claims including, auto accidents, slips and falls, and premises liability.
Dave has been happily married to Beverley Williamson Sackman since 1998. He has 2 children, Alexandra and Will and a black lab named Holly. He spends his free time with his family playing golf, boating and officiating lacrosse. Dave has been an NCAA Certified Lacrosse official for over 10 years. He was recently elected as the President of the Florida Lacrosse Officials Association (FLOA) in June 2010. Dave was selected as the 2010 US Lacrosse High School Council’s Man of the Year for his continued support and dedication to boy’s High School lacrosse throughout the Orlando area and the State of Florida.
